PoCo Pop Trees

As a part of Elvira’s Artist Residency term in the City of Port Coquitlam, she explored the theme of recycling plastic into objects of art, and in particular, colourful representations of the City of Port Coquitlma Parks and Recreation logo. Elvira conducted an open studio where community members were invited to drop in or contribute their recycling as material inputs.
Approximately 250 plastic “flowers” were created from colourful plastic pop bottles to recreate 3D trees. These provided a point of interest for several summer events. The project brought greater awareness of the amount of plastic that is common in our every day use and its impact on the natural environment.
