“Kwikwitlem”

Elvira was commissioned as 1 of 12 artists to paint an urban “Salmon” sculpture. This particular one commemorates the 125 year anniversary of the City of Coquitlam. One side of the piece represents the female salmon. The other side a male salmon. The “she” side “Kwikwitlem” represents the memories of the past, the ancestors and the eggs of the future. Nine round mirrors reflect YOU as the viewer when you approach this piece. The “he” side represents the action and future progress…and says “Coquit-I-am” with square mirrors on top of the “I” that refelcts YOU when you look closely, implying that the viewer is a part of their successful spawning process.
