The Harvest

The Harvest concept provides a community meeting place and identifies the place as Queensbury Village. The concept is a commentary on sustainable forest management and community equity while encouraging the public to engage with the space. Students were exposed to a variety of tasks, including, site analysis, concept design, materials assembly, painting, weaving, as well as installation of the tree biscuit paving materials.

We were hired as artist mentors to lead the project. The space was designed during the summer of 2019 as a part of Studio in the City 12, in partnership with NorthVan Arts and the City of North Vancouver. We came up with the concept, designed the space, collected the materials, and worked with the contractor to complete the installation on time and budget. A First Nations artist/weaver was invited to demonstrate how to use cedar and other natural materials to create weaving designs for the installation.
