Bugging Out!

This is one of 4 giant bugs that were created in 2023 in support of the City of North Vancouver’s parks strategy for sustainable turf management. Meadows were created instead of mowing and seeded to attract pollinators.  

A Moth, Flying insect, Spider and Catepillar were created with the help of community volunteers through our Art Residency. Mentored by the artists, community volunteers participating in the workshops were encouraged to work in teams of 2 to create the internal patterns.

All of the bugs are created from imagination. Adornments made from rattan, dried blueberry shrubs, feathers and wire mesh helped to create the details on these creations made of willow.
