During an annual clean up of the Coquitlam River, we were invited to create a sculpture from some of the trash that was collected. We found several bicycle wheels that we transformed into “mutant fish” by adorning them with other plastics and found objects that were upcycled. The result has been installed in Gates Park March – October, and is intended to raise awareness of the ongoing problem of litter in the Coquitlam Watershed. In this concept, the fish are perceived to be a result of the pollution. In a whimsical way, it raises questions of species adaptation, polluted waters, plastics and other environmental issues.
